Stroll around part of Ladybower Reservoir starting at Derwent Dam.
A nice easy 9km hike around part of the reservoir and a gentle elevation of 163m.
Why you’ll enjoy this Peak District hike:
The great news about this hike is that there's quite a lot to this reservoir area in the Peak District. This route is only for part of Ladybower Reservoir so is a nice easy hike where you can take your time. Despite how busy the car parking situation can get, it didn't feel crowded as there is a lot of path options. The views of Derwent Dam are truly spectacular and it's a beautiful dam to see in action.
Points of interest:
Along this route you'll pass a cute little cottage, head over the bridge while viewing the larger part of the reservoir and of course the impressive dam itself. If you head up to any of the higher points around the area (Bamford Edge is a good option) you'll get even better views of the area.
When to go:
Despite it being a busy destination the walk is not crowded. However I would bear in mind that parking can be a challenge so get there early if it's a weekend and if it's a school break, best of luck to you! The pathways are pretty easy and not too muddy or rugged so you should be fine in some trainers with grip.
What to pack:
I've created a page on the site for easy access to a handy packing list which you can access here.
Final thoughts:
I would definitely return here to do more of the reservoir at a later date. It was nicely populated if you're on a solo hike with clearly marked and paved pathways. It's also a nice outing for friends, families and couples and this particular route isn't strenuous.
